Using simple, composed forms, this project serves as a respite from the daily urban life of its owners. Perched on a quiet hilltop in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the home’s design focuses on an integration of architecture and landscape with intentional framing of views and meaningful experiences of the site. Expansive and welcoming porches connect the project and its users to the earth and provide spaces that spill out into the home’s surroundings. Bright and open interiors are grounded with tactile wood and stone, and are activated within by the shifting light and changing seasons. Carved openings within the sheltering porches invite daylight and layers of local flora into the home’s interior spaces and act as a bridge between site and buildings, celebrating the feeling of being rooted in a rolling landscape.
