This project was submitted for the Architectural
Public Competition of the future Innovation and Cultural Center in Macinhata da
Seixa, Oliveira de Azeméis, Portugal.
The intervention space is enrolled in a
mountainous territory and is located in one sunny spot with privileged sights
toward the valley and. The nature of the place is marked by pendants with
some declivity forming green slopes which are used for agriculture.
Our site confines in the Northeast with the
parcel of neighboring land and in the remaining directions with two automobiles
canals, both of different character and dimension.
The implantation of the building searches the
harmonization between the natural pendant of the land and the problematic relation
with the automobile way. Thus, the building resolve this problematic corner assuming
itself as a linear structure, that creates in West and South side a contrasting
game with the arched line of the automobile way. On the other hand,
the North and East side establish relations of continuity with the
preexistences strengthening and consolidating the main alignments and removals.
The
building is predominantly oriented to West and South, searching a favorable
solar exposition as well as an optimum framing of the landscape and their
particularities. The volume confides promptly with this nature and communicates
also with the interior.
The implantation of the volume next to the South
way of circulation allows the creation of a filter that separates noisy
automobiles, and collective spaces located in the interior of the plot. This
disposal of the building privileges the existence of diverse types of outdoor
collective spaces and articulate two patios, one palco, an external
“auditorium” and an accessible green roof.
The
bordering disposal of the building relatively to the way confers urbanity to
this site endowing it with public elements. The building develops in two floors (with one of them
below the ground), respecting the modal value of constructed environment. Given
the topographical characteristics the building shapes itself to the landscape
and takes advantage of the different levels allowing diverse “promenades” of
relation with the landscape.
A platform articulates and conglomerates
the main exterior spaces of arrival, as well divides and structure the
different program segments:
Auditorium, essays room for musical group, public
bathrooms, area for den/files, parking and engines room, entry, external auditorium, courtyard, store, administrative area, studio, permanent and temporary, expositions, bar/cafeteria, library, auditorium, coverage.
