The Philosophy Boutique for Alberta Ferretti is conceived as an illuminated Renaissance theatre. The three stores glass storefront opens the view onto the stage: a sloped glass floor illuminated from below thru gently cascading water. The focal point of the store is at center stage rear where the zig-zag motif of the stair is sandwiched between two layers of raw fabric and silhouetted in front of a backlit sandblasted glass plane. Daylight streams in thru two large glass roofs one at the front one at the back. Soft organic shapes inhabit the space in contrast to the minimal clarity of the four-storey space: a foetus shaped cash rap, a Calla Lilly shaped ornamental niche on the second floor, and a rudder shaped rotating mirror. cement floors and hand burnished mother of pearl colored walls provide the richly textured setting for the Philosophy Collection. Alberta Ferretti's Collection and David Ling's Architecture find common ground in a passion for craft, translucency and layering.
