The design for the North Building extension of P&G BJIC evolves seamlessly from the existing narrative, preserving the core concept and look & feel to ensure a cohesive and immersive spatial experience. Materiality, spatial planning, and the overall user journey have been thoughtfully aligned to create continuity with the existing architecture while introducing a fresh perspective.
The concept celebrates the raw material characteristics, expressing a strong sense of place and narrating the evolving story of Beijing where heritage architecture meets contemporary urban development. Through the layering of textures, tones, and finishes, the design draws inspiration from the city's transformation, bridging its rich cultural past with its modern identity.
Given the constraint of low ceiling heights in the existing structure, reflective ceiling panels were introduced as a strategic design element to visually elevate the space. This approach enhances the perceived volume, creating a sense of airiness and openness while maintaining functional integrity and visual coherence.
