The Pez Vela Chiringuito is located in the
basement of the W Hotel Barcelona.
This project blurs the boundaries between
inside and outside and organizes the space in three levels to ensure that all
guests have sea views.
The restaurant is illuminated like a
theater set playing with space and adapting to the occupation.
On the terrace, a wooden platform
distributes tables and rows of potted fig trees and grasses. The terrace is
partially covered by a pergola created based removable scaffolding structures
and blinds of esparto.
The façade, with large wooden sliding
doors, can be almost totally opened in summer connecting the pavement of the
terrace and the dining room.
Inside, a concrete U organizes the dining
room creating a sort of a carpet floating lightly on the wooden floor. In one
side, a recessed area on the concrete floor creates a living room with
perimeter benches and a central fireplace. At both ends of the U there are
hidden ramps to connect the different levels of the restaurant.
In the back there is the kitchen, covered
with a red corrugated metal as a container ship, and the bar, somewhere between
levels, allowing height dining table sat in the back and enjoy the magnificent
views.
The perimeter walls, with white concrete
block, are recovered up to 2m with reclaimed wood and backlight.
The roof, with a projected acoustic
insulation, shows the layout of the facility and only the black structures,
hanging down from the ceiling, show the lighting spots as a theater set.
