The project explores the interface between the community and its high school, and proposes a hybrid institution which functions simultaneously as a school and a civic cultural center, blurring the boundary between the community and its institutions. The high school is herein defined not as a “building,” but as the sum total of three superimposed systems: the natural and constructed surface of the site (Mat), the interconnected volumes housing the programmatic requirements of the academies (Barscape), and the volumes housing the communal programs shared by the school and the greater community (Towers).
