Completed in over two years’ time, this project was envisaged for an advocate client. His requirements being very specific:
1. To create an office cum residence
2. Use of grey shades and teak wood finish & to avoid as much color as possible
The site is situated on a busy road to Cochin. During planning stage, we located office spaces and the public areas of residence in the front to create buffer between the private areas and the road. Further canopies, louvers, pergolas, landscape and water were added to further cut down ‘unwanted’ sound and light. Office entry and residence entry was segregated to two sides. Connection between the inside and outside has been given through ample use of internal courtyard, double height spaces, pergola roof and back portico.
The form was designed to be simple yet elegant. A tilted RCC roof concept was planned alongside a louvered light box accommodating entry to office. It gives extra space inside and also reduces heat. Horizontal lines play across the elevation and boundary wall. Entire elevation has semi open facades to cut down sound and to create the much needed privacy from the busy road outside.
