Imagine a building envelope that removes significant nutrient pollution from surface water while greatly reducing the energy required to cool its interior space. Please find and read the peer reviewed scientific paper on Periphyton Roofs with references written after 30 years of algal culture system operational experience.
This is new type of green roof for Big Box Buildings cultures attached algae in a very shallow (1") flowing water. A 4 acre roof top algal culture provides 400 acres of wetland filtration capacity to a local lake or river and shades the building envelope from the sun dramatically cutting the energy required to cool the building interior. The value of the phosphorus in the harvested algae, paid by regulators like the Florida Water Management Districts, is almost 1/2 the 10 year building mortgage and is a revenue stream after mortgage pay off.
