Inspired by the idea of an outdoor shopping environment, Perimeter Mall was completely remodeled to bring in an energetic ambiance into the shopper's experience. The main concept for the mall was to eliminate the dim lighting and monotone colors and to bring in light, luminous colors, and modern materials to give the mall a lively ambiance. Each storefront was reconstructed to represent outdoor storefronts that utilize exterior surface materials. In the darkest parts of the mall, three lighting installations were designed to brighten the corridors. One of the installations is representative of clouds with undulating surfaces that line the ceiling of the corridor to provide a playful feature. Veering away from the rigidity of the rest of the project, the Cloud takes an organic approach through a series of translucent panels, each custom made to cascade along the ceiling. Illuminated by linear lights, the panels provide The Cloud transparency resembling natural clouds in the sky. Another installation is representative of a wave that creates a sense of artful movement and fluidity while also providing light throughout the space. The centerpiece was developed through linear light fixtures suspended at alternating heights, each centered on its axis in a series of rhythmic movements. Each wave amplification was extensively calculated to provide smooth transitions and distribution and create a gentle wave-like experience. Inspired by the symmetry of classic garden design, the third installation creates a custom backlit fixture under the circulation bridges. The concept was executed through bold geometry and crisp lines of concentric rectangles with alternating materials of wood, laminate, fabric, and light. These components together form light boxes beneath the bridges providing ideal light distribution and a focal point underneath an originally dark space. To complement this atmosphere, a contemporary take on an urban street setting was used for the floor.
