The client purchased this two-story penthouse in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC, with spectacular views of the city. His intention was to use it as a pied-a-terre when in DC, but also as his city office, when meeting clients, as well as entertaining during the daytime or hosting evening events.
The space went through an extensive renovation. The floors and stair were refinished, and railings changed to glass throughout. Walls from the upper rooms were removed, to allow for views into the atrium. The entire kitchen island and cabinets and countertops were replaced, so they seamlessly blend into the space.
A dynamic lighting package was installed throughout that allows for different scenes depending on the time of day and function being accommodated.
The dining area doubles as a conference area, when clients visit, and the impressive two-story atrium space serves as a lounge area with the ribbon fireplace and 3-dimensional relief above it becoming the focal point as you enter. The kitchen/bar area is incorporated in the space with the same color scheme and finishes. The upstairs landing serves as a meeting space or casual TV watching, while each of the two rooms upstairs double as sleeping space as well as office space when necessary. Furniture throughout was selected for their comfort and function as well as progressive profiles and treated in the same grey/purple corporate colors used throughout.
Balconies, a private deck on the upper floor and a spectacular roof deck terrace host informal gatherings when the weather allows.
The project was completed in the Fall of 2018.
The June 2019 issue of DC Modern Luxury magazine featured the project in an editorial piece called Work-Life Balance.
Client Testimonial
"I found out about FORMA Design on a simple google search, saw their work and awards on local projects and loved their aesthetics. I contacted Andreas and soon after we were walking my property. I expressed the vision I had for the space and over the next few months Andreas and Juan brought the vision to reality. The property has kept a simple palate all the while creating a clean, cutting edge, modern and ultimately breathtaking space. Andreas's creativity along with the technical knowledge brought by Juan took a dated environment and brought it into a creative and avant-garde space for the modern day."
