The owners asked Design Styles Architecture to design an outdoor living area on the rooftop outside of their Penthouse. The new rooftop deck design includes a covered roof structure that provides a shaded area for comfortable outdoor seating. As part of the design for the rooftop deck, the covered structure also has hurricane shutters that serve as a storage room for the furniture. Along the back wall of the deck sits a countertop with a sink; this sink shares a common wall with that of the bathroom inside the Penthouse. The new decking is designed with a wood composite material and is elevated over the existing roof structure to a height of 42” down from the top of the highest wall of the roof parapet. To obtain the best views of the water and surrounding area the deck has several levels; the best views come from those levels at the highest point. The owners wanted to incorporate built in planters to create a small garden. To complement the new deck outdoor lighting and power along the parapet walls and under the new roof structure was added. In addition large umbrellas were added that are bolted to the deck and can withstand hurricane force winds.
