The Pensionnat du Saint-Nom-de-Marie (PSNM) students will soon have access to a stimulating learning space where the environment and teamwork are prioritized. The expansion designed by our team includes a range of areas for socializing and working, including an agora that stretches in the shade of old trees in the woodlots, as well as an outdoor school on the roof to practice urban gardening. The interventions have been planned with consideration for the historical significance of the surroundings, including the heritage of the original building and the Mount Royal site, while integrating technology that makes users more comfortable, such as radiant flooring and ventilation through air displacement. The materiality of the extension incorporates the natural elements of the existing building in a very modern reinterpretation: worked stone for the base and smooth stone on rails for the floors. The limestone from Mount Royal will serve as the inspiration for the base material. Like the fragmentations of the rock, the floor will detach from the base with momentum to let in the light, leaving the base to follow the lines of the ground.
