Considering the demands and needs of the project area, the resolution of the 44 residential blocks in a variety of unit sizes and square meter configurations, as well as the provision of diverse office and retail typologies within the commercial block, has responded effectively to the expectations and requirements of the region. Located in Pendik, Istanbul, at the exit of Tavşantepe metro station, the Kiler GYO Pendik mixed-use project occupies one of the busiest points along the D100 highway, one of the city’s primary transportation arteries.
At the outset of the design process for a project situated in such a prominent and highly accessible location, several fundamental decisions guided the approach. In addition to accommodating commercial areas capable of serving the diverse needs of urban users, the project conceptually aims to create a spatial continuity that allows the city to pass through it. Rather than positioning itself in opposition to its surroundings, the project seeks to operate in integration with its context, most notably through the introduction of a publicly accessible urban square. This square is envisioned as a civic pause point—an open and inclusive gathering space where users can slow down, meet, and engage within the everyday rhythm of the city.
