This Pedestrian crossing bridge located in the Menteng Tenggulun village is a important piece of treasure that still proudly stand in the modernization of Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta. The bridge that has a span of 30 meters connects the Menteng Tenggulun village with Sultan Agung street separated by ciliwung river in Manggarai area. The area was first connected by “eretan” boat since 1965 that function as villagers’ access for crossing to Sultan Agung street to get their city’s transportation that will connect them to their destination.
The uniqueness of this bridge’s architecture was formed by fusion of lines on the outer appearance of the bridge composed of steel pipes. These steel pipes were formed into different patterns that create a rhythm that gave a unique character for the bridge. This design give a unique visual perspective of the bridge for each individual in different locations.
There are sixteen different patterns segment that symbolized a philosophy of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”, which is the official national motto of Indonesia. The phrase is Old Javanese translated as "Unity in Diversity". With the intention to bring hospitality and unity between the villagers that reside on the other side of the river. With each different patterns segment that combined into one solid bridge just like the strong relationship of Jakarta’s communities.
With brawl often broke out around the location of the bridge, it is with great hope that with the existence of the bridge the people would see it as a icon of unity for residence of the surrounding area of Jakarta and for the people of Indonesia.
