A competition sponsored by the City of Pittsburgh as a final installment to an ongoing regeneration of the cities riverside spaces. The challenge was to connect the final section of a system of walkways that take pedestrians on a loop from the center of the downtown financial district out towards a landmark bridge and back into the city. We designed a group of key spaces and points of interest along the riverside that would weave into the experience of walking on the “Loop”. We also looked at the relationship of how you span a river with a pedestrian bridge that is linked very closely to an existing landmark. Here we came up with the premise that the city needed an alternative focal point at the furthest point away from the downtown area, this would bring people out to that point. Our point of interest was a viewing deck and riverboat ferry terminal. Along with a new marina for small pleasure boats and green park spaces we aimed to create a cohesive collection of experiences that the pedestrians could enjoy.
