Peckham kitchen is a small-scale architectural intervention in an existing Victorian townhouse.
Located on a compact plot, the three-storey house has only one outdoor space - a small patio. A dysfunctional small kitchen troubled the owners additionally.
The challenge for the design team was to extend the kitchen without losing the exterior space.
Studioort decided to enlarge the kitchen carefully to make it function for a family whilst retaining the part of the patio with more natural daylight.
The new kitchen space appears to be slotted into the open plan ground floor and to embrace a light-filled void. Spatial elements, such as walls and floors define a space centered around a Concrete column, giving the impression of a room within a room.
The L-shaped, plywood fronted kitchen element echoes this gesture, whilst contrasting the pared down background materiality of sanded Stainless Steel and Concrete tiles.
