The façade of the
Pushkin cinema is being given a facelift.
The experience of walking up to the
building and then through it and its overwhelming dimensions elevate this
building from its urban environment. The existing architecture and the
monumental impression it gives already convey the symbolic character
The building give the impression of
being a type of base for something else altogether. This impression is being
picked up on, as is the aspect of the oversize scale of public buildings. The
solution therefore lies in reinforcing these aspects. The new entire structure
becomes the Pearl of Moscow. A golden pearl of impressive dimensions, supported
by a base clad in white.
The pearl stands for power, wealth,
the extraordinary, preciousness and uniqueness. Russia as a pearl of world
culture, to be taken seriously in analogy with a bead on an abacus. Literature,
music, art - at all levels of culture Russia has been an important pioneer in
the past, and it might be able to play this role once again, is possibly doing
so already, since Moscow is well on its way to outperform other global cities.
As this meaning is in front of our inner eye, the golden pearl is physically in
front of us, as concrete reality in urban space.
The new building is a symbol of the
new wealth and the splendour of former times. At its base, it will be entirely
clad in white Corian, softening the shape slightly, and the façade will be
decorated in the manner of a jewellery box. With its new appearance, the
building will become a further landmark of the city, which will combine and
reflect all its aspects and which will be visible as you come in to land at the
metropolis. This will be underlined by a colour scheme in gold and white. The
exterior will radiate pureness and a new beginning. To underscore the
above-mentioned aspects, the pearl will be set in gold, thereby also reflecting
the excessive momentum of Russian wealth.
