Our winning entry in Goldenvoice’s open competition for the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was that of a sound an light attenuated 15,000 s.f. performance tent with VIP bar, a 15,000 s.f shade structure and a 2,000 s.f. exterior bar.
The formal gestures of the 32,000 s.f structures were influenced by the surrounding mountains as well as geometry simple enough to allow for rapid installation and breakdown, while simultaneously visually complex enough to serve as a powerful aesthetic beacon within the festival itself. Materially we sought fabrics that from a performance perspective would meet the needs of temporary structures subject to extreme heat and wind exposure, yet would appear much more substantial and permanent, providing a sense of anchorage within the ephemeral nature of Coachella.
