iarchitects has just completed Pcube Restaurant
iarchitects studio has converted a 19th century railway workers' recreational club into PCUBE restaurant and bar, in Trezzo D’Adda, a small town near Milan, in northern Italy.
The main idea of the project, as well as the client’s desire was to retain the convivial atmosphere of the old building, adding a kind of contemporary mood.
Three rooms which the venue was originally composed by, were transformed into one ample space, yet keeping a visual separation for different uses: informal lunch, dinner, and bar.
The entrance features a big bar counter, high stools and a communal table. Then, proceeding a-head, coffee tables, armchairs, and a chesterfield sofa have been used to furnish a more intimate area.
During the work of refurbishment, old wooden ceilings were revealed and iarchitects decided to leave them exposed.
All the wooden tables are handmade by Jacopo and Nicolò Pepe -PCUBE owners, together with the chef
Giorgio Perego - using wooden planks, that were found during demolition works.
The interior project predominantly use metal furniture, as iron bar stools and metal pendant lamps, referring to the industrial character of the building.
The floor and the bar counter covering, refer to traditional old buildings floor in Lombardia;
The tile pattern underlines the vintage atmosphere.
“When we’ve start the project, we’ve found out, as it often happens, a fascinating old historical building hidden under many rehashes, which changed its identity” as tells Davide Cumini PARTNER iarchitects.
“Our goal was to rediscover the atmosphere of the place, working on few particular issues. First, we stripped away the plaster counter ceilings that was covering the original one. We liked the idea of maintaining open dialogue with the past, trough special materials and finishes, as it is the floor covering, or the coloured tile pattern. The whole venue has been changed following a sort of melancholic interpretation of life here.”
iarchitects has been asked to design also the brand identity of the restaurant.
