Divided into three distinct masses, the home’s forms are
reminiscent of early farm buildings that have been built over time and linked
by a glass circulation core.
This challenge was to capture the dramatic ocean view that
is visible only over adjacent rooftops facing the rear alley. This solution inverts the typical residential
organization and places the living areas on the upper floor above the garage
and master. The act of entering the home
becomes a sequence of inviting experiences as one leaves the street and moves
under the entry canopy, across the pool bridge and into the circulation core.
Once inside one finds private bedrooms on the lower level,
each with a personal courtyard extension connecting inside and out. Upstairs an office looks over the courtyard
while the great room orients towards the south east views. At once both old and new this home finds a quiet resolution
where space and time converge into a place for living.
