Pasta Miasta – urban orangery
“Visitors’ attention is directed upwards, to suspended baskets drowning in greenery. An interior in rather disciplined style becomes softer through hanging gardens, bringing up a thought of an urban orangery.”
The unique space brought upon in a restaurant designed by studioturbo - Paulina Kisiel. Located in Gdynia, destination for fans of modernist architecture. Hidden among legendary boutiques of the famous Swietojanska street, the mekka of shopping in the post-communism 90’s. The owners of the place believe that Gdynia is one of its kind and offers a good quality of life – comfortably well-designed, cultural and seaside. Therefore, they decided to start their business there.
Renovation process began with the unveiling of the original walls and restoring the primary layout of the space, formerly heavily modified by previous owners. As a result, an open, visitor friendly space with an area of over 90 square metres was created. Tall display windows were cleared so the urban style of the interior was visible from the street, inviting passers-by to take a look inside.
When entering the restaurant, you walk along a large-size wall made of glass, placed on top of the counter. It imitates an old Italian pasta place where you could stare at the chefs preparing the meals. Transparent yet somehow creating an ambience of revealing the mystery of kitchen, heart of the entire place separated from the visitors’ zone. The interior has been designed so that it can be seen from every angle of the place thus enabling guests to take a sneak peek into the world of home-made pasta, sheer delicatessen if the place. Every day it is prepared from a special flour from durum wheat. What is more, every single pasta type is based on a different recipe. You can watch the whole process live via a glass wall.
The main room has been designed with great attention to detail. Inspired by the style of Italian cafes and restaurants, accommodates cast iron table legs, typical for such spots. In the main dining area, visitors’ attention is directed upwards, to suspended baskets drowning in greenery. An interior in rather disciplined style becomes softer through hanging gardens, bringing up a thought of an urban orangery. The tension between the classic Italian cast iron legs, severity of glass wall at the entry, metal reinforcements of walls plus the substrings supporting the hanging garden – all this is balanced with natural, beech wood finishes of the chairs and tables. Delicate glass lamps complete the interior and create a unique atmosphere of an urban orangery.
For the summer season, visitors can relish in the backyard, hidden among modernist architecture of Gdynia. The patio allows to dine together under the open sky, welcoming the fans of slow-paced warm days.
Pasta Miasta is a place created to enjoy the cuisine. Filled with positive energy and a passion for creating.
