The project, initiated to create an urban structure appropriate for the scale of the intercity railway station, is the first step towards redesigning Munich’s district Pasing. The large-scale intra-urban structure has formed a clear boundary to the high speed (ICE) train line in the north. At the same time, the building fits into the well-established centre of Pasing, which is characterised by small buildings and courtyards. Courtyards have been cut out of the compact block development, alternately on the north and south side, so that the plan of the building resembles a meandering band. Whereas the outward-facing walls are rendered, the facades surrounding the courtyards are faced with clinker brickwork. The two courtyards situated on the northern side are closed with large noise protection walls. The concave facade opposite the historical station is also defined as an incision and adopts the material characteristics of the station by using clinker bricks. Retail and catering facilities are located on the groundfloor; offices and doctors’ surgeries on the storeys above. A primary school with a day care centre and a kindergarten are accommodated in the western part of the building. Their playground immediately connects to the green belt between the river, Würm, and the Würm canal.
