Designed for Thomas Russo, the Parti Ruralis creates a site specific retreat house.Located on a small peninsula on Table Rock Lake, this house takes advantage of the site’s unique qualities. The forested lot allows sheltering from neighbors while the bluff on the west side of the site provides a visual connection to the lake below.Inspired by the social gathering of close friends, the upper floor plan utilizes unique hexagonal forms to create an open plan to promote interaction. The change in roof heights reflects the intimacy of the spaces. The lower level is composed of orthogonal forms to create a more familiar spacial language.Materials applied to the exterior of structure reflects the site’s bluff to make the building seem as though the stones were manipulated into a man-made structure.
