This historic townhouse in Park Slope had been stripped of original details and chopped up into a warren of rooms by a previous owner. The client was a single-family buyer and wanted to create an in-law suite at the garden level, where the parlor and second floor became the main residence.
Our spatial strategy for the parlor floor was to create an open plan where spaces seamlessly flowed into one another with a fine balance of open and private. A structurally unsound backyard deck was replaced by a steel deck with warm bamboo planks. The kitchen and powder room were designed with premium finishes that had a fine blend of contemporary and Park Slope grandeur.
