Built in 1920 using an unusual construction method, this historic townhouse was completely renovated in 2012. The client’s interest in the films of Stanley Kubrick became a central inspiration to the collaborative design process, creating dream-like conditions in the living space.
The design created a superposition of old and new, flickering between original, historic features, and crisp, modern spaces. The building contains a fluid, plaster interior with historic elements floating in fields of white, drawing a sensibility of bold and unsettling spaces from Kubrick’s sets and cinematography.
