Project collaborated with Shanghai Asia Pacific Exhibition Produce Co.,Ltd.
Located in Shanghai Xin Guo Ji Bo Lan Zhong Xin (上海新国际博览中心).
The design of this project aims to build a flexible and reusable exhibition pavilion. Through the parametric design, pure white rectangular blocks are arrayed to form a soft artistic space. The client and our design team hope the new pavilion can change people’s traditional view about the chemical industry and have a new image of modern chemical industry which is clean and utilized in all aspects of our life. At the same time, another requirement is that all the components should be recyclable.
The inspiration of internal space and the ceiling comes from the space distorted by gravity which is described in Einstein's theory. Audience enters the pavilion through three "melting" holes on the wall along primary and secondary passages. The internal wall surface also grows smoothly from these holes. It appears that the focus of the ceiling, "magic cube", is attracting the square matrix of the ceiling down.
The size of pavilion is 16mx12mx6m. Space matrix is made up of wooden boxes with different lengths, and the same section's size of 0.4mx0.4m.The 1660 wooden boxes are gently arranged through the parametric design, making precise output and resulting in rapid and accurate installation. The structure of the pavilion is an aluminum frame system. Wooden boxes made from recycled hard-combustible wood are fixed by special fixture.
