Set within the quiet and peaceful Riverside neighborhood of Hanoi, the Residence offers a refined interpretation of contemporary architecture, shaped by its local climatic, material, and cultural context. A restrained composition of clean, modern forms is seamlessly integrated with the surrounding landscape, blurring the boundaries between the built environment and nature.
As the climate remains consistently warm year-round, the project adopts a minimalist approach tailored to a tropical setting. Rather than relying solely on formal expression, the architecture is shaped by environmental considerations, allowing natural light, ventilation and landscape to become fundamental components of the design. The riverfront setting becomes a vital element, inspiring the architecture to open outward toward the river and surrounding landscape.
Thermal comfort is addressed through an integrated range of passive design strategies including deep cantilevered roofs, external shading, light shelves, expansive glazing, and sliding doors. Carefully arranged openings facilitate cross-ventilation while layered shading elements help control solar exposure and minimize heat gain.
The façade presents a clean, contemporary composition defined by strong horizontal volumes, generous expanses of glazing and layered terraces. Large operable openings establish a seamless visual and physical connection between the Residence, garden, pool, and riverfront setting while drawing natural daylight deep into the interiors. Energy-efficient glazing and strategically positioned shading devices further enhance the building’s environmental performance, supporting thermal comfort within Hanoi’s humid climate.
A restrained palette of light stone, dark-framed glazing and warm timber detailing adds depth and warmth to the architectural structure. The contrast between crisp contemporary forms and natural materials creates a sense of understated sophistication, while mature trees and landscaped gardens soften the architecture, allowing the Residence to integrate naturally into its waterside setting. Through this considered integration of architecture, climate, materiality and landscape, the Residence achieves a contemporary expression that remains closely attuned to its Vietnamese context.
Spanning multiple levels, the Residence is layout to accommodate to both communal and private living while promoting natural airflow and reinforcing connections between the principal living spaces and the surrounding landscape. The ground floor features an open plan layout, allowing the living, dining and entertainment areas to flow seamlessly into one continuous space. Floor to ceiling glazing extends the interiors toward expansive views of the landscaped gardens and infinity pool, whose reflective surface mirrors the surrounding architecture and greenery, further dissolving the boundary between the built environment and nature.
The upper floors accommodate the Residence’s private quarters with spacious bedrooms designed around a calm and minimalist aesthetic. Generous balconies extend the living spaces outdoors, offering intimate views across the river and surrounding areas. Frameless glass balustrades and open terraces preserve uninterrupted sightlines, allowing natural light, plant life, and the tropical setting to remain a constant presence throughout the home.
While the ground floor is dedicated to open communal living and the upper floors accommodate the private quarters, the lower ground floor is conceived as a dedicated wellness and entertainment level, offering a more intimate and immersive experience. A private Entertainment Lounge provides a relaxed setting for film and leisure, positioned opposite a fully equipped Fitness & Pilates space. A translucent partition visually connects the two spaces to the pool, allowing light, movement, and reflections to filter through while creating a subtle dialogue between the interior and water beyond. Adjacent treatment and relaxation areas offer a quieter retreat for rest and rejuvenation.
Outdoor spaces, including the poolside lounge and shaded terraces further strengthen the relationship between architecture and nature. Designed for both quiet moments and social gatherings, these spaces extend the living environment outdoors, fostering a seamless connection with the landscape while reflecting the relaxed and communal character of Vietnamese culture
