The parachute pavilion is a unique opportunity to regenerate the border of Coney Island with a singular operation that will leave a footprint in its future. The project begins with this purpose and the same illusion that had the engineers that designed the first roller coasters in this area of New York but with the present image of being attached to a landmark, that must be respected and considered, rather both would tune to generate a strong idea of the past and a brilliant present-future.Ephemeral-permanent architecture, with aero-dynamic shapes, the pavilion is not a building growing from the earth. Maybe it reminds us a parachute landing, only instantly an architectural condition, still moving with the flow of the New Yorkers, the world and their imagination, like the wind of the ocean waving on the slopes of the dunes of the sand of the beach and the motion of the water.
A centrifugal and never ending movement feeds up the interior from the parking entrance to the boardwalk to reach the exterior terrace of the restaurant. These circulations don’t follow stops or curves, the program fades with the promenade and the visitor-spectator finds himself in the middle of particles-events.The rationalized structure holds a magic material: translucent, porous and water-resistant when rain appears, reminds us the interior of a haima or a Berber tent from the Sahara.Activity generator, a parasite on a landmark, the pavilion is going to vibrate according to it and remind us the past, in order to be a new symbol of the world’s capital.
