Along a large wide stone road, a small street leads to a hill with a house among the fields. The single-family house is located among sweet corn and cows with views of forests, agriculture and vistas. The view to the surrounding landscape is diverse and changes according to the season.
Burobill capitalised on that variety of landscape to design a home that fully enjoys the surrounding landscape. Approaching and experiencing the design differently from each side. The entrance to the house is under a concrete canopy, an extension of the roof. The organic shape of the canopy provides shelter and accentuates the entrance. A fine blue steel column provides support.
The facades are raised in recovered brick and are very meticulously drawn with varied brick patterns. The horizontal line of the canopy is visible all around in the brick strip with vertical bond. The east side, which includes the kitchen and dining area, looks completely different thanks to rectangular windows and green awnings. A large corner window with sliding door provides access to the garden. On the south side, a monumental fireplace for the outdoor hearth draws all the attention. The masonry dressing has also been thoughtfully applied here. The rounded wall on the southwest side is related to the round shapes of the concrete organic canopy. Each side has its own individuality, as does the lower part where a small music studio will have its place.
The house is compact yet very diverse. The open living room with a central circulation via the circular concrete staircase to the first floor is monumental yet cosy. Reclaimed bricks recur on the round volume with the indoor fireplace. It was the client's explicit request to see the fireplace from everywhere and enjoy it from the different rooms. The round skylight is a projection of the staircase in the roof and brings light deep into the house.
The spaces flow into each other around the staircase and form 1 pleasant whole. The kitchen consists of a large cabinet wall with a lower unit under the window at the front side and a large island. While cooking at the large suspended terrazzo island, the client enjoys the beautiful surroundings to the maximum.
On the first floor, blue takes over thanks to the blue PU cast floor and blue steel balustrade. As you come upstairs, you get closer to round skylights, and walk through an open workspace to the rooms and the 2 bathrooms. The bathrooms are in the same atmosphere, strong brute materials.
The materials are shown in their nakedness, steel dark red polish bars, concrete floor, reclaimed brick, wooden day edges round the windows and a wooden kitchen. The house is equipped with all contemporary technologies, heat pump, infiltration, solar panels, green roof, ventilation system D, etc.
The landscaping is phased and will be done by 2024. A line, sometimes wall, bench, table, clothesline, column forms an outline around the cultivated garden. The garden where grass is cut and flowers are planted. The house emerges from this line.
