This new-build project in Toronto's East End replaces an original bungalow on the same site. Due to the footing size and proximity of the water table, the original house could not feasibly be expanded, and the family opted to build a new 2-storey home on the same footprint. The new house boasts insulation levels six times higher than those of the former house, rooftop solar panels, triple-glazed fiberglass windows, high efficiency heating and ventilation systems and shading devices to counter the summer sun. The basement walk-out level can be converted to an in-law suite or rental apartment.
