abstract DoME (Department Of Medical Ecology)
Campaign for the Nation
The mission of the newly formed Department of Medical Ecology is structured on
a five point scale system. The five points are simultaneously local & national and
individual & collective for site-specific implementations.
House, Street, District, City & Country are common scale terminology the public is
familiar with, but the DoME Campaign demonstrates possible everyday usages.
The five scale topographies of the Department of Medical Ecology produce a
series of infrastructural contours. The contours act analogously in layering a new
landscape producing both micro and macro natural effects. The infrastructural
contours support users and context that will transform Washington DC into a
model DoME city for the entire nation.
Pamphlet Architecture 30
DoME is an acronym for ACTION…by all citizens.
“There is a phenomenal resiliency in the mechanisms of the earth. A river or lake
is almost never dead. If you give it the slightest chance...then nature usually
comes back.”
Rene Dubos, father of medical ecology
Medical Ecology is a branch of science that investigates the
effect of the environment on human health.
Disclaimer
To be straightforward and not mislead anyone :
The Department of Medical Ecology and the proposed DoME Campaign does not
and will not put a dome over the city of Washington DC. Likewise, no connections
to the proposed dome for Manhattan in 1960 by Buckminster Fuller are involved in
or with the DoME Campaign either.
