PAMA House, located in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, represents a deep expression of familial love, designed by LADD Architects Jsc. in collaboration with THREEPLUS Design. As a cherished gift from the eldest son to his parents, this home is intended as a place of tranquility for the parents in their later years while also serving as a gathering space for family during weekends. More than a residence, it symbolizes devotion, carefully crafted to balance both intimacy and openness, with an emphasis on warmth and light.
The core concept of the house centers around the idea of connection—between the inhabitants, between interior and exterior spaces, and between the house and its natural surroundings. Despite the narrow 5x20 meter plot with a single open facade, the design achieves a sense of openness and light. Skylights and vertical voids are strategically placed to invite natural light and airflow into the home, effectively dissolving the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. The central skylight runs through the heart of the house, creating a vertical link that unites the floors and provides a calm, airy atmosphere that evolves with the movement of the sun.
The experience of moving through PAMA House is designed as a journey. The open-plan living and dining area flows naturally from one space to the next. The one-sided staircase, illuminated by light from the central skylight, serves not only as a passage but as a path through layers of space, greenery, and light. Plants and natural elements integrated along the staircase turn the ascent into a serene experience. The rooftop garden offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by lush greenery.
A key architectural feature of PAMA House is its ability to balance intimate, private spaces with a sense of openness and connection. The upper floors house private bedrooms, each designed as a calm sanctuary. Vertical voids and open spaces allow these private rooms to feel part of the whole, linked by light, air, and the central atrium. This design approach creates a thoughtful balance between privacy and communal spaces, allowing both to coexist harmoniously.
The exterior design is equally significant. The curved facade, inspired by the traditional Vietnamese kite, symbolizes freedom and grace. Vertical metal screens and slats provide both privacy and shading while still allowing light to filter through, casting dynamic shadows and maintaining a connection with the outside world. The facade bridges modern aesthetics with traditional values, reflecting the home's blend of contemporary and timeless elements.
PAMA House is not simply a place to live but an experience—one that invites exploration through its spaces, fosters a connection with nature, and promotes peace within its walls. The journey through the house, from the sunlit living areas to the garden-like staircase and rooftop retreat, offers moments of tranquility and discovery. Moreover, in every part of PAMA House, from the light-filled atrium to the private bedrooms, a sense of belonging is established. This is a place where family connections are nurtured, where nature becomes part of daily life, and where the architecture itself fosters a sense of peace and harmony.
