This Beverly Hills home for an award-winning sound engineer was designed by LA-based interior designer and furniture maker Leslie Shapiro Joyal to reflect her client’s longstanding passion for art and design. It was equally important that the renovated, three-story townhouse also accommodate regular private screenings, given her client’s profession.
A consummate collector, Shapiro Joyal’s client was hyper conscious of the items he placed within his new home. Thus, Shapiro Joyal, also a renowned furniture designer, designed and custom-built many of the central pieces, including a solid walnut dining table, solid cherry wood bench and ebonized walnut wood and steel desk, among others. As the third project Shapiro Joyal has collaborated on with this client, her custom furniture pieces transitioned seamlessly into the home. Pieces by other designers, such as ceramic backsplash in the kitchen by Heath Ceramics, handmade rice paper lantern lights by John Wigmore, and a Michael Boyd rug also permeate the residence.
In overseeing the interior design, space planning, furniture and material curation, cabinetry design, fabrication and installation, Shapiro Joyal sought to keep the design ethos simple, natural and refined. The color palette is boldly masculine with olive greens, burgundy, indigo blue and warm grays as the dominant shade. While rich walnut is used as the predominate material throughout the home for the kitchen cabinetry, dining room and barstools.
