Extensive renovations were undertaken to this 1970's clinker brick split level beach house. With breathtaking views north over Palm Beach, the external walls were the only thing left remaining of the original house. The kitchen was brought from its rear courtyard location up to the upper floor with views, the deck was extended with frameless glass ballustrading, creating a seamless view. Both the upper level and ground floor living spaces have large timber and glass sliding doors which stack away to create wide openings allowing a continuous inside/outside living situation.
The clients were keen on the timber lining of Hampton's style houses, giving a relaxed beach feel to the house. Rough sandstone was used for the fireplace and courtyard walls maintaining the language of the local beach vernacular.
A retaining wall was added to the ground floor outdoor area converting an outdated terraced rockery into a level lawn for the client's grandchildren to play.
