This guesthouse is a play between conflict: DRESSED UNDRESSED, male and female, object vs. landscape, material vs. ephemeral, solid vs. void. The design is a simple box with all glass sliding doors on the south and west-facing sides to maximize daylight, natural ventilation, and the blurring of the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. There are two solid walls on the north and east-facing sides for thermal mass.It is a box of material opposites that anchors two solid walls into the hillside and then slowly dematerializes towards the southwest sun and views. The trellis structure marks the points where interior dissolves into exterior space. But it also acts as a passive shading device to reduce heat gain inside th ebox and to create shaded outdoor spaces.
