Paço de Giela is a historical private civic building, classified as a national monument since 1910. It is built in Gothic style with some architecture elements in manuelino style.The objective of the competition was to rehabilitate the area surrounding the monument creating an urban Park to serve Arcos de Valdevez municipality. A second objective consisted in providing an hotel to develop the turistic potential of the region.The region is known for its local species of wild horses, known as garranos. The competition aimed at the creation of an interpretation centre as a form of protecting the horses by spreading knowledge, with our proposal complemented with a recovery centre for injured and old horses.Ultimately, it requested that the proposal should include an outdoor amphitheatre.As common element that should unify the different built elements, the competition defined as a structural concept the presence of water.
