The project consists of the expansion of a large, old house (casona) in the Historical Center of Mérida. Situated on a lot spanning 70.00 meters deep, the remodel seeks to expand the limits of the habitable space to encompass the entire property, integrating it with an abundant array of over 50 existing species of flora, including trees, palms, and shrubs. The house is intended for vacation use by a family residing in the center of the republic, who seek to disconnect from their daily routine and enjoy the culture, gastronomy, and atmosphere of Yucatán.
This is achieved through the integration of an entertainment pavilion: a glass box that seemingly disappears amid the exuberant existing vegetation—a transparent enclosure designed to blur the boundaries with the exterior. It is a pavilion dedicated to gastronomic enjoyment, mixology, and disconnection.
The main elements of the pavilion extend in different orientations to embrace the three existing trees surrounding the space. To the south, a stone wall encloses the space, hugging one of the trees; to the east, a pergola allows the passage of the second tree; and to the west, contained within a planter, the third tree is situated, allowing guests to enjoy its seasonal yellow blossoms on the terrace.
Flanking the pavilion to the north, a second, solid stone box houses the outdoor kitchen, half bathroom, and service areas.
The interior space features a lounge and a high table that encourages family gatherings or moments with friends. This space extends onto the terrace to accommodate a family dining area, which has a closer relationship with the outdoor kitchen, where meals and dinners prepared by the household chef can be savored. A winding stone path connects the pavilion with the main house, guiding the user through various zones where they can enjoy the vegetation.
The material palette is warm, composed of stone elements, woods, natural weaves, transparencies, and reflections that seek to blend with the natural environment while providing a contrast to the urban setting.
El proyecto consiste en la ampliación de una casona en el Centro Histórico de Mérida. Dentro de un solar de 70.00m de fondo, la remodelación busca expandir los límites del espacio habitable a la totalidad del terreno, integrándolo a una vegetación abundante de más de 50 especies existentes, incluyendo árboles, palmeras y arbustos. La casa es de uso vacacional para una familia que reside en el centro de la república, que busca desconectarse de su día a día y disfrutar de la cultura, gastronomía y ambiente yucateco.
A través de la integración de un pabellón de entretenimiento, una caja de cristal que desapareciera en medio de la exuberante vegetación existente, una caja transparente que pareciera borrar los límites con el exterior. Un pabellón para el disfrute gastronómico, mixología y desconexión.
Los elementos principales del pabellón se extienden en diferentes orientaciones para abrazar los tres árboles que se encuentran rodeando el espacio.
Al sur, un muro pétreo contiene el espacio, abrazando uno de los árboles; al oriente, a través de un pergolado se permite el paso del segundo árbol; y al poniente, contenido en una jardinera tenemos el tercer árbol que en diferentes épocas del año nos permite disfrutar sus flores amarillas en la terraza.
Flanqueando el pabellón al costado norte, una segunda caja sólida de piedra alberga la cocina exterior, medio baño y servicios.
El espacio interior se conforma por una sala y una mesa alta que nos permite disfrutar de la convivencia familiar o momentos con los amigos. Este mismo espacio se elonga hacia la terraza para albergar un comedor familiar, el cual tiene mayor relación con la cocina exterior donde podemos disfrutar de comidas y cenas elaboradas por el chef de la casa.
Un camino serpenteante de piedra conecta el pabellón con la casa principal, dirigiendo al usuario a diferentes zonas donde puede disfrutar de la vegetación.
La paleta de materiales es cálida, compuesta de elementos pétreos, maderas, tejidos naturales, transparencias y reflejos que buscan mimetizarse con el entorno natural y contrastar con el entorno urbano.
