The Britannia took it’s maiden voyage on the 14th March 2015, carrying 3600 passengers and 1400 crew. Designed by Richmond International for P & O Cruises, this ship is 1082 ft long, which is 66ft longer than the Shard is tall.
Terry McGillicuddy, director at the practice, in his interview with P & O spoke of the design direction on this project being a focus on an overall British Ambience, and wanting to bring a fresh, modern and flowing design to the ship. Richmond International are a London based practice with over 45 years’ experience in hospitality design, having worked on projects such as the Langham Hotel in Chicago.
To be involved with a piece of British History, was very fulfilling for us, as a team we are passionate about the British heritage in engineering, and the entrepeneurial spirit, reflected in the founders of P & O, in the 1820s, Brodie McGhie Willcox and Arthur Anderson.
Lovair first got involved in this project at the end of 2013, working closely with Richmond to design hand washing units for not only the washroom areas, but at the entrances to the dining areas.
These Corian hand washing units were hand-crafted in our Stockport workshop, ranging from 1.2 to 1.8 Metres in length.
In addition to designing and installing the Corian sink units, Lovair also supplied a large range of washroom fittings for the ship, including our L-180 Sensor Tap Range, and our L-460 Sensor Operated Soap Dispensers.
