P Home by Studio Krubka is a mixed-use architecture and interior design project that merges rental offices, a private office, and a residence within a 400 sq.m. urban site in Bangkok. The brief called for ground-level parking with separate entries for office and home, office spaces on the second floor and mezzanine, and the residence on the upper levels, including a music rehearsal room and fitness area.
The core design challenge was integrating these varied functions within strict height and area limitations. The architects employed a flat-slab, wall-bearing structure that eliminates beams, fostering vertical openness and flexible spatial organization. The building’s primary material—fair-faced reinforced concrete—was cast using high-strength, low-slump concrete in steel formwork, producing smooth, uniform surfaces distinct from conventional plywood finishes.
Circulation is divided between two user groups: office tenants and residents. A red steel staircase forms the office’s vertical core—light, refined, and contrasting with the building’s solid concrete mass—while the homeowner accesses the residence through a private elevator. The open-plan office layout faces the front façade for flexibility, with enclosed zones positioned along the sides. Carefully placed skylights and openings bring natural light and ventilation deep into the interior, culminating in a central skylit atrium that organizes the spatial experience.
The residential area is separated from the offices by a steel door, yet selective openings preserve visual continuity through balconies and skylights. A transitional semi-outdoor threshold precedes entry into the home, softening the shift from urban density to private retreat. At the heart of the residence, a central courtyard planted with a Crescentia alata Kunth tree acts as both a ventilation shaft and a symbolic passage—residents cross through this uncovered space, reconnecting with nature before entering the elevated living area.
The double-height living room opens east–west with large sliding doors, enabling cross-ventilation and daylighting. A retractable fabric canopy shades the courtyard during peak sun hours, maintaining comfort and airflow. Skylights above the pantry, music room, and guest bathroom tailor natural illumination to each function.
Material experimentation enriches the spatial experience: fair-faced concrete offers monolithic calm, glass blocks filter and diffuse light, and perforated ventilation bricks add rhythm and depth. Minimal interior detailing allows architecture and materials to speak for themselves, creating a poetic interplay of structure, light, and air.
P Home embodies an architectural balance between metropolitan intensity and natural serenity—transforming a dense city plot into a tranquil, breathable home.
