KMA Architecture
& Engineering (KMA) announced
today that construction is nearly complete for the P-710 Twentynine Palms
Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. The project, designed by KMA in partnership
with Straub Construction,
is expected to be complete by April 2010.
As part
of the Marine Corps “Grow the Force” initiative, the 72,146 square-foot project
will involve the construction of temporary administrative and military
functional facilities, including concrete pads, utilities, fences, access roads
and parking lots, as well as sunshades for equipment and vehicle maintenance.
The interim facilities will provide Marine Corps units with temporary administrative,
maintenance, storage, armory and restroom spaces, in addition to furnishings,
fixtures and equipment.
“We
aligned our design plans with the Marine Corps’ mission to provide durable and
multi-purpose training facilities that meet the needs of the base and the
Marine and Navy occupants,” said Don Blair, president of KMA. “With the ‘Grow
the Force’ initiative underway, the designs for new structures will also adequately
accommodate the recent personnel increases in the Marine Corps.”
The buildings
will be used to house live-fire combined arms training, urban operations and
joint level integration training to promote operational forces preparedness.
This particular Marine Corps facility will also support future “Grow the Force”
military construction including a vehicle wash rack, loading dock and
supporting utilities.
The
total project includes 29,100 square-feet of administrative space within 21
modular buildings; 7,274 square-feet of classroom space amongst three modular
buildings and one tensile fabric structure; 11,220 square-feet of storage
space; 3,564 square-feet of armories and 3,048 square-feet of modular restroom
buildings.
