Hidden Gardens is a multi family housing community located in the urban setting of Copiague, Long Island. Its main approach is inspired by the site's hidden elements of open spaces. Using grid systems based on the circulation of vehicles, it first created the morphology of the housing based on a grid created from the streets on the existing context of the site. The second grid creates the facade of the building based on the frequency of the vehicle congestion on the streets. This creates unique units with strips of open glass systems which play with how the natural light enters. A system of skylights are created for units for extreme exposure to light that is only for the lower units and have a diminish view compared to the higher units. The interior unit walls are all clerestory openings that create fluid light and air circulation. In the exterior there is a system of green meshes that create a green sound and visual barrier from the Long Island Railroad and traffic. This makes Hidden Gardens a quiet area of two levels of public and private spaces similar to the previous context of open spaces.
