The Outdoor Art Lab for Evergreen Community School in Santa Monica, CA consists of two studio spaces for children aged 2-5. These nature-integrated learning spaces are designed to nurture children’s imagination, encourage spontaneous artistic exploration, and inspire creative expression through diverse art forms.

Rooted in the school's educational philosophy, “Knowledge is built by the learner internally rather than being imported from an external source,” the studios support immersive painting and learning experiences. These open-ended spaces allow children to engage freely and draw inspiration from their natural surroundings.

The Outdoor Art Lab emphasizes sustainability by prioritizing the use of local and repurposed materials, minimizing environmental impact, and promoting eco-conscious practices.

The goal was to create an environment that invites children to focus on what is relevant to them, promotes self-discovery, and cultivates a deeper connection with nature, fostering a meaningful and holistic educational experience.
