Solares founders Tomislav Knezic and Christine Lolley have designed and built their own home. This major renovation project took an existing house in Toronto’s Roncesvalles Village and transformed it into a healthy, sustainable three bedroom home with a basement rental suite.
This Solares showcase employs innovative sustainable construction materials and methods. Final energy testing reveals an 84% reduction in energy use, a 15-metric-ton saving in CO2 emissions, and an air leakage rate of only 2.08 ACH.
The main floor space has been opened up, and highly efficient building systems have been installed. There is new insulation, new windows, and healthy interiors. With only 450 square feet per floor, clever design makes this house a beautiful and functional home for Tom and Christine’s family of four.
