The proposal involves the upgrading of interior spaces of the campus of “OTE Academy” in Maroussi.
A key element in the arrangement of a classroom, a team work space, a workshop or a lecture hall, is the individual seat and the individual workspace. The idea is based on using a recognizable (modular) spatial element that can be combined flexibly and can form diverse arrangements both in classrooms and in public corridors. The trapezoidal shape proposed attempts to break the orthogonal regularity of a typical room, without restricting the ability for multiple configurations of furniture, while enabling teachers and learners to try creative new devices and ways of communication.
The dimensions and proportions of individual desks result from minimum anthropometric sizes. The seats are integrated with the tables forming a furniture unit. The arrangements of furniture are those that define the use of classrooms. Different arrangements can be: a) peripheral configuration for attending seminars, b) large oblong tables for meetings, teamwork and discussion c) small working teams of three or four persons flexibly scattered in the room d) study tables in the form of individual desks, f) sitting areas for isolation and study, and various combinations of all the of the above.
