Ostional Guesthouse
This 175 m² beach house is located on a hill overlooking the waters of Ostional Beach, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It was developed with a low-tech industrial design concept, where a simple and functional composition creates framed panoramic views of the ocean and a deep connection with its surroundings.
The ground floor features an open-plan living area that connects with an infinity pool that was designed oriented perpendicular to the house, this was key to dramatize the view and create a projection to the ocean and at the same time invite nature inside. This becomes undoubtedly the highlight of this property. The pool was designed with three different depth levels with sitting and resting areas so it can adapt to different uses. It’s meant to becomes an extra living space to enjoy fully. At sun set, it becomes a stunning focal point that is placed symmetrical to the house, offering a tranquil retreat to unwind and enjoy the experience.
The house presents simple, yet elegant, design elements, as carefully selected mosaic tiles that stand out with their geometric plays and color contrasts. Its minimalistic industrial raw finishes contrast with nature as concrete, steel and Teak wood are the main protagonists. In the second level the layout presents 2 master bedrooms and 1 kids’ bedroom, each with balconies overlooking the ocean and the jungle. The segmented bathrooms are highly functional for a house designed for rental purposes; all its spaces can be used simultaneously for a variety of potential guests.
The design is focused on functionality and comfort with an emphasis on creating a space that is both inviting, unpretentious and where the connection with nature is present. It’s a project where we carefully analyzed the balance between the building size, budget, quality, and the experience of the users in the spaces.
