This orthodontist practice on Heeckerenstraat in Breda was in need of rejuvenation. Sjoerd Henneman and Nancy van Hees, both orthodontists, wanted to give the entire premises a new image and feel to match their ambitions and future plans. It was also the perfect opportunity to expand their capacity. The location was fine – subsumed in a residential district, surrounded by greenery. But the practice was too poky, closed and not conveniently arranged. We overcame that by opening up the space and incorporating large glass surfaces in the existing openings in the outer wall. We also added extra openings in the roof to let in more sun and light. The entrance is centrally located. Upon entering, the treatment rooms and consultation room are on your left and the waiting area and teeth-cleaning area are on your right. Walk straight on and you come to the Xray room. The routing for clients, orthodontists and assistants has been optimised, ensuring that there are no obstructions. The new open and transparent character is reinforced by the warm-coloured cast house floor (with a concrete look), the white walls, and the white, fully acoustic ceiling. The central part of the reception, administration and sterilisation area and the associated cupboards in the treatment room are kitted out in a fresh, modern green wood veneer. The interior design and the lighting combine to make this a highly functional yet comfortable workplace.
