Primarily, material choice had a key importance for us since this was a stand design for a firm which was producing wooden office furniture. While the stand was coming out, raw expression of timber, could easily make a contrast with the finished and mature expression of wood, represented by the furniture that the firm was producing.
Furthermore remembering that the exhibitons are places where people get bombarded quite intensely with images, we tried to be different with the material choice and its treatment at first. Without pressuring the visitors, we wanted to create a natural ground where they could make a pause in order to see the products of the firm in a comfortable and natural environment.
Making the best use of the material and designing the ‘landscape’ inside the stand, were of high importance for the creation of the ‘natural’ atmosphere of the stand. Landscape which was composed of a water misting system (created thanks to the water coming out from the ceiling under high pressure) was cooling and refreshing the air like in the forest. While strongly contradicting the exhibition area; ‘landscape’ of the stand was concluding and furthermore crowning the design. In this way we referred to the sensibility and the care that the firm gives to the environment.
Usually there are certain types of materials used in the exhibition stands. When the exhibiton finishes; these have sad ends too: they go to trash. However this stand was designed to have a double function: after the exhibition the pieces produced from wood went into use in the present showroom of the firm functioning as library, chair or a dividing element. A part of the flowers were planted into ground and some were given to people who love flowers.
All these, show our approach to the stand design: we did not consider it as a process of couple of days; in the contrary we preferred to look at it as a process where we could challenge ourselves on how in a recycling way we could make use of the materials afterwards and how this design could continue its use after the exhibition.
PS: Design was awarded with 3rd prize in the Golden Magnet(‘Altın Mıknatıs’) Awards, under the category of ‘Best Stand Design which suits its objectives’.
