This private villa is located in a flat polder landscape punctuated only by the verticality of large tall trees. The wide plot is differentiated by a sequence of gardens; field, meadow, orchard and hedgerow. In the small meadow beyond the trees, an existing barn unfolds into a new house. The villa is a continuous volume meandering through the forest. Its roof is designed by ‘unrolling’ the barn’s shape over the new volume of the house, bringing more intimacy to the inner garden.
___There are several sightlines through the forest where one can catch a glimpse of the distant dunes, emphasizing the extraordinary flatness of the polder landscape. The sun route and everyday path in the house are the source of the design. The winter garden, catching every morning’s sun is attached to the kitchen and the veranda to be used all year long.
