Orchard Heights is a new residence on top of Eola hills in West Salem, Oregon. The site boasts beautiful views of Mt Hood and Salem city to the east and lovely wine country and rolling hills to the west. This is a house for a family that has a busy daily life but still loves to enjoy a country lifestyle. The east side of the house has large window walls and a patio under a cantilevered roof to enjoy the big views. The west side has intimate patios and garden to enjoy the view of vineyards in the sunset. When the large patio doors are open, the beautiful patios and gardens become an extension of the interior space. The covered roof-top deck with a fireplace provides a comfortable entertaining space in all seasons with views to both the east and west. This house celebrates the joys of country life with family and friends.
Sustainability has been a driving force for the design of this project. The goal was to create a high-performance, energy-efficient building to last for the next 100 years. The house is wrapped with continuous exterior insulation and rain screen system with metal roofing on top. High performance aluminum windows and doors. A state-of-the-art HVAC system includes high-efficient heat pumps and a hydraulic radiant heat system. Automatic exterior wooden sunshades reduce solar heat gains from the strong summer sun.
