Brutality of brutalism, naivety of formalism, irony of postmodernism and egocentricity of suprematism – here it is a competitor to historical surrounding, an imposing Black Square of an architecture. An attempt is maid to take the void as a main architectural tool contrary to volume. The edge between outer and inner space is negated and spectator is required to move through a scenario to discover the architecture. The entrance through the void on the façade leads into inner atrium space spiraling around a concrete sculpture of gramophone needle. Though the complex includes traditional theatre stage, performance is welcomed to experiment all over the inner space. Besides theatre hall and two smaller halls, all convertible into single symphonic space, building includes restaurant, art gallery and media centre.Building structure uses extensively 3-dimensional trusses, in particular for framing of gramophone tube as well as for fully technical upper storey to which floors over the tube are suspended. The project seeks to promote itself at the background of lack of iconic building of Odessa - the city traditionally viewed as "humor capital" in Russian culture.NOTE 1. Came out earlier than "hole buildings" of BIG or Jakob Macfarlane Architects.NOTE 2. Yes, I am aware it can serve as freudist test.
